n the early days of Snowmobile racing, tracks were oval and general made of ice or actually took place on a frozen lake. The sleds were low to the ground, very noisy and very fast for their day. Spectators would brave the cold and watch their favourite racers going round and round hoping to emerge as a victor.
Today, there is a new form of snowmobile racing known as Snowcross. Snowcross has evolved from those early days of oval racing combined with the ever-popular Motocross racing. Presently, Snowcross racing is the premier form of snowmobile competition in Canada. Events take place at World class Ski resorts, horse race track facilities that feature gaming entertainment, as well as, fully enclosed heated grandstands for our sponsors and spectators to enjoy viewing our events in comfort or has in the case of the North Bay Races, right downtown behind the old train station which is now home to the museum. As long as there is snow, the tracks can be made anywhere and take on many shapes and forms. They have several twists and turns and some great jumps that really get the crowds going.
The sleds today have really evolved as well as the racers and their teams. Snowcross is truly a family sport, whereby racers can start as young as 4 years of age and even compete and can continue racing well over 40 in the Masters class. Why not set aside a weekend on your Calendar and check out Snowcross for yourself.
